Greenland- Ice, light and the edge of the world

Greenland has been in the news lately. So I decided to describe my visit to the island in 2017 as part of an LSU - Greenland partnership effort. As the vice president for research and economic development at LSU, I had the responsibility to seek enduring partnerships with other universities especially in Europe. Myself and my associate vice president, Dr. Randy Duran decided to visit the island as part of a side trip from Iceland where we to present some of our ongoing economic development efforts at an international conference there. My wife accompanied me as a separate private individual paying her own way. The trip began from New York to Amsterdam from where we boarded an airplane to Illulisat (a UNESCO world heritage site) in Greenland. Our intermediate stop was Kangarlussuaq where the American base was situated. Our trip involved a hike to the icebergs and a midnight cruise to the icebergs. We concluded our trip with a visit to Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. The sights and sounds had unbelievable effects on us.
